Am I In The Right Job?

Most people find themselves “stuck” in a job at some point in their lives, whether that be a job they hate, a job they need to pay the bills, or a job they’re way overqualified for but can’t figure out how to climb the ladder. If this sounds like you, don’t worry — this is all part of your journey to Self-Mastery. In fact, sometimes these trials and tribulations are needed in order for us to grip the bull by the horns and take action. Otherwise, we end up going through the motions like a hamster on a wheel rather than thriving in our lives and our careers.

Assess Your Situation

It’s easy to get fed up with the work world, especially if the company culture of your workplace doesn’t mesh with your personality and work style. If you’re feeling burnt out, exhausted, or just plain bored, take a second to assess your situation with a critical eye. Step back and try to view your situation from a different viewpoint to see if there are any stones left unturned.

Determine whether it’s the job that’s the problem or your attitude about the job. Sometimes, all you need is a change in perspective to reignite the fire that you had when you started. And if that isn’t the case, it’s time to move on.

Challenge Yourself

If you feel like you’re at a standstill with your job, odds are you need a challenge. The amazing thing about human beings is that we thrive by learning new things and challenging our ideas about how certain things should happen. For some people, it’s easy to fall into a mundane routine, and for others, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the things they do. Intention is key here — try to wake up every morning with a goal in sight, whether that be learning a new software at your desk job, challenging an out-of-date practice, or spearheading a project you’d be proud to take on. You’d be surprised at how much passion is fueled by a good challenge.

Be Patient

There are certain things we can’t control in life, one of which being where we get hired. I am a believer that good things happen with time but that you also need to engage with the world around you and tune into the signs the universe gives you that it’s time to switch gears.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to make things happen, it just isn’t time yet. So, how do you know? You take a deep breath, accept what you can’t change, and work on improving what you can. Perhaps then the things you can’t control will turn out in your favor, like being offered a promotion or your dream job someone had been considering you for. Maybe all it takes is making the most of what you’ve got and trusting that fate will take care of the rest.

Seek Help From A Professional Coach

Sometimes we really find ourselves stuck and need an expert to help us out of the situation we’re in. If you’ve tried all the techniques listed above and haven’t been able to improve your work situation, consider investing in career coaching services from a transformational coach you trust. A motivational coach will be able to help you see your potential as well as point out areas where your current job isn’t serving you. Then, it’s up to you to make the decision to stay and make a change or to start over in another position that’s more in line with your destiny.
